History of RVAC

The club saw its previous home at Bargoed park, formerly named as Bargoed AC. This then developed into 'Rhymney Valley Athletics Club, founded by Bill Maynard. The track was a cinder 8 lane track. The club was successful in producing athletes at both County and International level and enjoyed competeing against local clubs during most weekends. The club was one of the most successful clubs within South Wales.

 

Bill Morgan was a major contributor to the club and was the Treasurer in the early days-developing the club to a hugely successful track and field club. The first ever member of the club was David Morgan, Bills son.

The club was handed over to the safe hands of Eric Darch and Colin Cushing with our current Treasurer Linda Cushing also having a crucial role back in the 1990's.

 

The club then developed with the retirement of Eric and Colin and finally was run by Howard Jones.

 

In 2013 the club was re-launched and in 2014 a new team of eager and enthusiastic parents and grandparents re-located the club to Blackwood Comprehensive School. The relocated was due to the deteriorating conditons of the track in Bargoed.
